Property Tax Relief Workshop
Local attorney and CCRC treasurer Regina Quick will conduct a “Property Tax Relief Workshop” for all interested Clarke County property owners affected by reassessments. The workshop will be conducted on Saturday, 30 May, from 10:00 a.m. until noon at Clarke County Republican Headquarters, located at 445 North Milledge Avenue.
Ms. Quick is conducting the workshop free of charge, so please take the opportunity to learn about all available options to lower your property tax bill and verify that your assessments are made and implemented fairly. If you are interested in attending, please register with CCRC chairman Bill Griffin via email.
Ms. Quick will also discuss the property tax assessment freeze recently enacted by the General Assembly and signed by the Governor (HB 233).

Thankfully, the assessor called me this week and told me they were adjusting my valuation back to its original value.
I am concerned, however, that the Athens Mayor and Commission are laying a foundation to challenge HB 233 as either Unconstitutional or they may argue they are exempt. Presently, they are discussing "Circuit-Breakers" on property taxes but I think their new-found interest ins helping property owners is really just a way to go into court and seek and injunction against HB233. (They will argue ACC is already working to limit the impact of assessment rises and as such the state law is unneeded and shouldn't apply). Will they actually devise and enact circuit-breakers? Doubtful!
