Former President
George H.W. Bush was in town Friday for the dedication of the new
Paul Coverdell Center for Biomedical and Health Sciences on the campus of the University of Georgia. In addition to the former president, the ceremony brought a host of notables to town including former Senators
Zell Miller of Georgia and
Phil Gramm of Texas (a former UGA graduate), Governor
Sonny Perdue and others. It was a beautiful spring day in Athens for the ceremony which was handled nicely and was attended by many students and dignitaries alike. President Bush received a standing ovation and a roaring cheer from the crowd when he was introduced. His remembrace of the former Senator Coverdell was poignant and moving.
